As part of trying to eat better, I'm trying to buy higher-quality as well as fresh-er food. As the fresh stuff seems to spoil rather quickly, I find myself stopping by the food-store about every other day. Now, while I enjoy going to food store, it is not always easy for me because I most conquer the temptations of the bakery (donuts + breads), the ice cream isle, the cookie & snacks isle and the adult beverages isle. The temptations are compounded when I go later at night b/c of all the desserts/donuts are now magically marked down to a price that seems too good to pass up (even as much as I've told myself that donuts are bad for me, when there are 10 of them wrapped in a bag for $1.50, I literally stop and stare for a few seconds wondering if I should "just this once" buy them b/c that is such an AMAZING DEAL!), but I'm getting off track...
The cool thing that I've found is that if you go to the food store later at night or early in the morning, you can find some great deals on the fresh food that has been marked down. In the past 2 weeks I have bought fresh salmon, mahi-mahi and organic angus beef all for about 30% of regular price. Let me know if y'all have found any great deals or food buying tips...
Also, I thought I'd throw this into this post as well: we are going to plant a garden here at the office. We figure since we're not gonna be able to sell this land anytime soon and eph and I have to mow the 2 acres of lawn, we might as well try to grow some quality food of our own. Beau is calling it a "victory garden"- he was telling a story about how his parents had one and it was the name for the garden they planted to save money and help supply food while we were fighting the British or Turks or some other force of evil...
so, if you have any gardening skills or suggestions, please pass them along!
