It's amazing how much sugar we (Americans) eat every day and how hard it is to cut out sugar from our diet. Our gym is doing another Paleo Challenge and I'm using it as an excuse to ease off my sugar cravings which got a bit out of whack through the holiday season. I have no issues eating gluten-free on a daily basis, it has been a lifestyle change that has become the norm and a good micro-brew is only deviation from that plan. Sugar - that's another matter. It's used in most ALL processed food so any packaged stuff, condiments and of course all desserts. I can say no to dessert, but what about flavored (sugar-enhanced) coffee creamer? Peanut Butter with honey? It's the little hints of sweetness that are hard to let go of and keep me coming back for that sugar "high", however small that may be. That's where the joke about being addicted to sugar or comparing sugar cravings to those of recreational drugs becomes much more serious. There are real, chemical reactions that take place in the brain when we eat sugar and real endorphines are released, which makes this a very REAL issue.
See article below for more info on how food companies are getting more tricky with use of "added" sugars:
Added Sugars
Only way to avoid sugar? Eat. Real. Food.
